　　众所周知，在雅思写作的图表作文部分，经常要求考生对数字做出描述，而在雅思的听力部分，也经常会涉及对数字的聆听和拼写，因此，考生一定要系统掌握数词的读法及写法。数词是表示数目的多少或顺序的词，分为基数词和序数词。其中，表示数目多少的数词叫基数词;表示顺序的数词叫序数词。
　　(1)表示二十以上的十位数，要在个位数与十位数之间加连字符号，如：72=seventy-two;表示百位数，要在百位数与十位数之间加and，如：131=one/a hundred and thirty-one;如果十位数是零，则在百位数和个位数之间加and，如：508=five hundred and eight。
　　(2)书写千位数以上的阿拉伯数字，从后往前每隔三位数用一个分节号，读法是从右往左数，三位数一个逗号，从右数第一个逗号读thousand(千)。如： 1,000 =one/a thousand 10,000=ten thousand 100,000=one/a hundred thousand 从右数第二个逗号读million(百万)。如：1,000,000=one/a million10,000,000=ten million 100,000,000=one/a hundred million 从右数第三个逗号读billion(十亿)。如： 1,000,000,000= one/a billion 10,000,000,000=ten billion 100,000,000,000=one/a hundred billion 需要注意的是hundred,thousand,million,billion等词前面有具体数字或several修饰时，不加-s。如：The magazine has two million readers.这本杂志有200万的读者。
　　如果不与数词或several连用，则可以以复数形式出现，表示“数以百计”、“成千上万”等。如：hundreds of people 数百人;thousands upon thousands成千上万;hundreds of thousands of几十万，无数。 2.倍数的表示方法(1)用…times表示。如： My room is three times as large as yours. 我的房间是你的三倍大小。 (2)如果表示“是……的两倍”，一般用twice。如： My room is twice as large as yours.我的房间是你的两倍大小。
　　(3)用-fold表示。如： The value of the stock has increased two-fold since we bought it. 股票的价值已经涨至我们购买时候的两倍。
　　(4)用%表示。如： The collection of our school library is 200% up compared with 1998. 我们学校图书馆藏书量与1998年相比增长了一倍。
　　(5)用double(翻一番)，triple(三倍于)等词表示倍数。如： Many things now cost doublewhat they did a few years ago. 许多东西比数年前贵了一倍。 In the past five years the company has tripled its sales. 过去五年中，该公司销售量增至三倍。
